Upcycled No-Sew Curtains for $3.98

I have a new office and even though it comes with the oh-so-fabulous cheep metal blinds, I just  had to spice it up a bit.  I love a challenge with budget and creativeness and so I made these curtains for my office… I love them! they match the light blue walls and brown floor i painted 😉 and they only cost a whopping $3.98 from item’s I bought at the goodwill and 2 hair rubber bands.

Here’s How I did it:

  • Old duvet cover, I got mine at the goodwill on a 50% off day for $2.99. You want the duvet cover because its’ double sided, thus making this project no sew.
  • Complimentary colored t-shirt, Goodwill has a $.99 t-shirt in the men’s section so I just bought a brown t-shirt.
  • Scissors.

How to:

Step 1:

Make Tshirt yarn. the best tutorial that I’ve found is this one at Polka Dot an Pineapple., no need to rebuild the wheel here, just click over and follow her instructions.  Then cut it into approx 6″ strips.

Step 2:

Lay out duvet cover and pick the “top” that you want (you want the opening where you button the duvet to be on eof the “sides” of the curtain as it doesn’t look right as a bottom or top piece. Fold it in 1/2 top to bottom and Cut it in 1/2 so you ahve equal sized panels.

Step 3:

Cut in about 3 inches on the top left and top right of each panel you are basically making the holes for the curtain rod to slide through the top. since the duvet is double sided then this is it! top is finished.

Step 4:

now you have 4 sides to the left and right of each curtain panel. You are just going to cut little holes in the sides of the duvet cover and tie knots with the tshirt yarn. do this all the way to the bottom corner on left and right side of each panel. start at the bottom of the hole you cut for the curtain rod.

Step 5:

When you get to teh part that has the “duvet opening. fold the fabric inwards like you woudl if you were sewing then just cut through those layers for your “Hole” and knot. this keeps it all together.

Step 6:

Hang that baby up! and take your two hair rubber bands (Mine are brown) and put it on the bottom, now you have your decorative curtains for SUPER cheap!

I have pictures and more details for the tutorial if anyone is interested, please comment if you’d like pics and more details 🙂 (not sure if anyone is using my Tutorials LOL)
