This project was made for one of my best friends, Megan and Brett are getting married on December 1st (YEAY!!!!). They had a pre-wedding celebration as they are having a private ceremony in Hawaii. I wanted to give them something fun and since it was a classy affair, I though wine glasses for dinner and then champagne flutes for the toasts.
I’m going to give this tutorial with 2 sets of instructions. You don’t need a $400 sandblasting cabinet to do these (I have one for refinishing old hardware in my house remodel), you can do them just as easily with etching cream..
- Wine glasses
- Champagne flutes
- Armor Etch Etching Cream (or sandblaster)
- Stickers for the design you want
- Painters tape
- Craft brushes (to paint on etching cream)
Step 1: Wash, clean and dry your glasses thoroughly.
Step 2: Put your stickers on the glass where you want them, know that anything WITH stickers or tape on it will NOT be etched but anything exposed will.
Step 3: Tape around where you don’t want to etch. I typically make a square or stripe are to enclose the stickers so that there is a nicely etched border.
Step 4: Sandblast or Apply the armor etch per the instructions on the bottle and wait the designated time OR if you sandblast, your done right away.
Step 5: Remove the tape and stickers and check out your awesome, thoughtful, custom gift!
At some point I need to do a post on my fascination with the sandblasting cabinet I got to help refinish a bunch of vintage hardware and lighting for the new house (1928 bungalow). … more on that later.
