DIY LP Record Storage Box .. ON WHEELS!

diy vinyl record lp storage box on wheels stained wood solid I have to say, there is something about listening to music on vinyl that just gives me the warm fuzzies! A little bit of crackle, fuzz and hum.. physically having to flip over the record to get to the next side, &  listening to an album start to finish just has a nostalgic feel to me and I love it.

We’ve started quite the collection of LP’s and quickly found we needed some good storage for them. Since vinyl isn’t exactly the most popular form for listening to music, I just had to make my own.

I knew it had to have 3 things.. size to fit, wheels and easy of searching through records.

I had some scrap poplar plywood lying around, and just had to purchase some casters and furring strips to frame out the box. I even had an extra cabinet handle laying around to use.

getting to the point, I may need to make another!

    1. Hi Jim, I used 3/4 plywood and 1/4 fir strips (so the sides are 1″ thick essentially) and the measurements are 15.25″ wide (13.25″ space inside) and 16.5″ deep (14.5″ inside) and 13″ tall.

  1. Hi Lindsey – love this LP storage box and want to attempt one or more for my 19 year old son who has become a vinyl fan. Do you have the list of directions on how to make this? I see from a posting in May 2014 that you were working on pulling directions together. Much appreciated.

    1. Thanks! Unfortunately, it’s been a while now I don’t have specific detailed instructions…That said I basically used 5 pieces of 3/4″ plywood.. 2 pieces cut to fit the width and height of the records (with 1/2″ of room) these are the front and back…and the other 2 pieces (sides) cut to fit the height and however long you want the box to be… Them the last pics is your bottom piece so measure that to fit…then I just used firring strips to frame out the sides and make it look nicer than a basic box… Finish off with stain and poly and Add a handle and 4 wheels and your good to go! Hope this helps!
